As hard as it seems to believe, quite a few cosplayers have never been to an actual Con. Me and CielTrancyhive have compiled a list of key points to remember (even if it's your first of twenty first con, these are useful);
If you are going to your first Comicon, don't do an extremely extravagant cosplay. You need to get used to your surroundings, and if you find you have no where to sit down in your six inch heals or the place is packed with small annoying children, you're going to regret going in your cosplay. Don't forget, many cons run several times a year, so if you go early in the year in a basic cosplay, you know you'll feel comfortable (or not) going in something a little more extravagant later in the year.
Pre-book your comicon tickets. I cannot stress this enough. You don't want to be queuing up for about 4 hours only to find there are actually no tickets left. That is basically every cosplayers worst nightmare.
Bring something to eat/drink. During the day you will never know when you will need something to eat/drink, and most of the time the queues for food places and vending machines are horrific.
Plan your cosplay months in advance. I know I always leave mine far too late, especially when actually buying the cosplay itself. If you buy your cosplay (from somewhere in Asia) only a couple of weeks before your con, it arrives the day before and it doesn't fit, well then basically you are screwed. It's vital to buy something like this at least 28 days before the con (that's just under a month). Also, don't buy it a year in advance, as you may get to the month of your con and find it is way too big or way too small. Also, budget budget budget!
Don't bring too much with you. You'll regret bringing a suitcase of stuff when you find the con doesn't have any seating whatsoever. Also, don't buy huge amounts of stuff, especially if you're going back home on the train. Restrain yourself to the stuff you want the most.
Research your accommodation and transport. Such websites like lastminute.com, hotelscombined.com & travelsupermarket.com are all great places to book your accommodation (especially the last minute deals, they're always brilliant). If you're in the UK, thetrainline.com is great for buying tickets.
If you can think of anything else for useful con tips, please post them below.
